“Askur Yggdrasils: The World of the Gods” is a creative research
project that combines game design,
the Icelandic language and Norse mythology. The project
aims to explore and develop new ways to teach Icelandic in a
fun and immersive way.
The long-term goal of the project is a computer game, i.e. a role-playing
game (RPG) where users learn Icelandic through adventurous
stories and tasks related to Norse myths.

Players create their own character and travel through the
nine worlds of Norse mythology, meeting gods and mythical
creatures, solving puzzles and re-discovering their lost identity
as the story progresses.
The project is not only about the game itself, but also about
exploring how language learning and storytelling can work
together to generate interest in the Icelandic language and
cultural heritage. The development of a digital demo explores
how such a system could work in a social context and
how it would be percieved by children today.
“Askur Yggdrasils: The World of the Gods” is thus not just an idea for a
game, but a project that aims to connect
language, heritage
